BYD has left Tesla in the dust with its latest release of two world’s fastest charging EVs and the world’s first megawatt charger capable of charging EVs with 2 km every second. This is twice as fast as Tesla’s latest 500 kW superchargers. Not only this, it also launched flash-charging batteries, 30,000 rpm EV motors, and a new generation of silicon carbide automotive-grade power chips. Many of them are world’s first. All this constitutes BYD’s new ‘Super e-Platform’ technology.
With this, BYD has also addressed the issue of electric vehicle charging anxiety, which is on the mind of every buyer before buying an EV. This megawatt flash charging opens a new era of “fuel and electricity at the same speed.”
“In order to completely solve users’ charging anxiety, our goal is to make the charging time of electric vehicles as short as the refueling time of fuel vehicles.” Wang Chuanfu, chairman and president of BYD Group.
The two electric vehicles released were the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, both to be based on the new ‘Super e-Platform’ technology.

World’s Fastest EV Charging Technology—1000V, 1000A, 1000kW
BYD’s new ‘Super e-Platform’ technology is capable of charging EVs at up to 1 megawatt (1,000 kW) power, achieving a peak charging speed of 2 km in 1 second. The new Han L and Tang L models will be able to charge 400 km in just 5 minutes, making it the world’s fastest charging speed on mass-produced electric vehicles. The era of megawatt charging system has arrived.
To reach such ultra-high charging speed, the system must be able to support ultra-high voltage and current. BYD therefore developed a 1,000 V architecture and flash-charging batteries capable of handling 1,000 Amp current and a charging rate of 10C. This means that the battery can be fully charged in one tenth of an hour, i.e., 6 minutes. Again, all these are world’s firsts.

World’s Fastest Charging EVs
The new BYD Han L and Tang L are now the world’s fastest charging EVs, capable of adding 400 km range in just 5 minutes. They will feature all of BYD’s latest ‘Super e-Platform’ technology.
The BYD Han L will be capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds and have a top speed of 305.56 km/h. On the other hand, the BYD Tang L SUV will be capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds and have a top speed of 287.41 km/h.
The BYD Han L price starts at RMB 270,000 (USD 37,340), while the BYD Tang L SUV price starts at RMB 280,000 (USD 38,725) in China. These are the pre-sale prices, and the models will be launched in April.

1,000V EV Motor
BYD revealed an electric motor for EVs running on 1,000 V and producing 580 kW of power and 5,500 Nm of torque at 30,511 rpm. It can propel the Han L model to over 300 km/hr.
“The 30,000 rpm motor not only achieves a significant increase in vehicle speed but also significantly reduces motor weight, reduces motor size, increases power density, and redefines peak performance,” Luo Hongbin, BYD Senior Vice President.

Flash-charge Battery
Supporting both ultra-high voltage (1000 V) and ultra-large current (1000 Amp), BYD’s new flash-charging battery achieves a maximum charging power of 1 megawatt (1,000 kW). Being the world’s first for a mass-produced vehicle, the “megawatt era” has officially started.

Fastest EV Charging Station
BYD has developed the world’s first fully liquid-cooled megawatt flash-charging terminal system with a maximum output capacity of 1,360 kW.
Also, BYD’s “dual-gun charging” technology can also turn supercharging piles into flash charging piles and fast charging piles into supercharging piles. Again a world’s first, this “intelligent boost” charging technology is fully compatible with any public fast-charging piles.
BYD plans to set up more than 4,000 stations across China. This megawatt charging system will so far be the fastest EV charging station. However, BYD has not specified the locations or timeline to do so. Nio and Tesla already have an extensive network of charging stations across China with over 2,000 each.

Moreover, BYD also plans to set up its third factory in Europe after Hungary and Türkiye. It has not yet disclosed any location, with Germany and Italy appearing to be the likely candidates.
The release of these technologies has also had a positive impact on BYD stocks. Overall this year, BYD share prices have risen more than 50% so far. On the contrary, Tesla shares have fallen more than 45% during the same period.
Such new developments like the fastest charging EVs and the complete megawatt charging system will likely make EVs more appealing to buyers and the EV world more electrifying.
