In 1913, the company was founded by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. Back in those days it was not known as Aston Martin but rather Bamford & Martin Ltd. In 1914, Bamford & Martin hand-built their first car, code-named A1 but commonly known as “Coal Scuttle” due to its resemblance to it.
