A brand still quite unknown outside China, Jiyue was founded in 2021 with the collaboration of automotive giant Geely and tech giant Baidu. Baidu is in fact well known for its autonomous driving technology used in the “robotaxis” of China.
On 15th Nov 2024, Jiyue unveiled the Robo X. As the name “ROBO X” implies, the car is loaded with the best artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technology. According to Jiyue, “Robo X is an AI smart-driving electric supercar that, for the first time ever, incorporates artificial intelligence and autonomous driving into a high-performance, race-ready electric car.”
The price is not yet disclosed, but the Robo X can be pre-ordered with a deposit of RMB 49,999 ($6,900), and the car is expected to start mass production in 2027. Quite a long wait.
Performance and Specifications
According to Jiyue, the Robo X can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.9 sec, making it one of the fastest cars on the planet with a range of over 650 km.
It comes with a high-performance, quad-motor, liquid-cooled drive system. With carbon fiber and 5052 high-strength aluminum alloy used extensively, this 4,650 mm long, 2,000 mm wide, and 1,195 mm high car weighs only 1,850 kg. The car comes with a 2,700 mm wheelbase.
The Robo X is a performance machine with great aerodynamics and visual appeal. It will be for the first time that Level-4 self-driving technology is going to be used on a racetrack. Apart from track, the car will be able to drive autonomously on city roads also.
Design
As fast as it goes, it looks even sharper. No wonder, it has already won the Red Dot and German design award 2025.
The Robo X is definitely a showstopper with its aggressively sporty design, including eye-catching features like aerodynamic lines, falcon wing doors, an air intake on the roof, and a split rear spoiler. According to Joe Xia, Jiyue CEO, “For the next 20 years, the design of supercars will bear the shadow of Robo X. This is the best design in the history of Chinese automobiles, and its presence is a landmark.”
Inspired by fighter jets, the interior of the car is like a smart cockpit. It uses Baidu’s Apollo technology with SIMO as a virtual assistant, which, through a voice command, can display real-time information like the motor torque, thermal management data, and chassis dynamic analytics.
In short
High-performance electric super and hypercars from China just keep on coming. The Robo X joins the long list of BYD Yangwang U9, Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra, GAC Aion Hyper SSR, Nio EP9, and others.
It’s quite incredible for JiYue to come up with such a vehicle in just 3 years since its inception. Of course, JiYue is backed by two heavyweights, Geely and Baidu. So it’s not just about its performance but the AI features and L4 autonomous technology built in. According to JiYue, “It helps to improve driving, handling, safety, and efficiency.”
With its AI technology like no other, the JiYue Robo X will definitely be a top contender on any buyer’s list. If JiYue can price it well and work some more on its brand marketing, it can definitely penetrate the world market faster. But the wait till 2027 seems a bit too long.
