Mazda EZ60 grabs over 10,000 orders within 48 hours in China

Revealed at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, the Mazda EZ60 is a new midsize electric crossover SUV developed by Mazda in collaboration with Changan Automobile. It will be the second New Energy Vehicle (NEV) to be manufactured by Changan Mazda, and the initial response was nice, with the vehicle recording 10,060 pre-orders within 48 hours of its public debut. So after making some waves in China, it is poised to make a global debut, potentially as the CX-6e.

The Mazda EZ60 was revealed in a new deep metallic purple color and will be available in both electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) versions. It is expected to be officially launched in August 2025.

Full details have not been disclosed so far. The Mazda EZ60 range is expected to be around 600 km for the BEV model and over 1,000km per refueling for the PHEV model.
The PHEV model would feature a 1.5 L (72 kW) engine paired with a 190 kW electric motor and a 31.7 kWh battery, providing the vehicle a pure electric range of 160 km.
Both variants are rear-wheel-drive, with the EREV boasting a perfect 50:50 weight distribution.

The EZ-60 is also equipped with a continuously variable damping suspension, which intelligently matches the different road conditions and driving intentions with millisecond-level response.

The Mazda EZ60 has dimensions of 4,850 mm in length, 1,935 mm in width, 1,620 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,902 mm. It offers a cargo space of 350 liters, which expands to 2,036 liters once the rear seats are folded. The fully electric model also has an additional 126-liter front trunk.

Design

Built on Changan’s EPA platform, the Mazda EZ60 continues the brand’s design theme of “FUTURE + SOUL x MODERN.” The vehicle has a sleek, attractive design with slim LED headlights, a closed front grill, and Mazda’s iconic grill shape that illuminates once the vehicle starts.

The side has a shooting brake coupe design with flush door handles, rearview side cameras instead of mirrors, eye-catching dual-tone large wheels, and a long wheelbase.

The rear is characterized by a top-opening sloping tailgate and a full-width LED taillight bar.

The inside of the Mazda EZ60 features a smart cabin that can be operated by voice, touch, or gesture. Highlighted by a large 26.45-inch 5K central touchscreen and a virtual 3D heads-up display, the vehicle offers an optional 23-speaker system.
The vehicle has nine airbags as standard and offers L2 driver-assistance technology for which it utilizes 5 cameras, 5 radars, and 12 sensors.

While the Mazda EZ60 is initially targeted at China, where it’s expected to be launched in August 2025, its global potential is undeniable. The EZ6 sedan, also a Changan-Mazda collaboration, was confirmed for Europe as the Mazda 6e, and so the EZ60 is likely to follow suit, potentially as the CX-6e.

With over 10,000 orders received within 48 hours, Mazda seems to be gaining some traction in the Chinese NEV market. With plans for additional models in collaboration with Changan and a homegrown EV using Panasonic batteries on the horizon, it will be interesting to see if Mazda can keep its electric momentum going.
